Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review and Giveaway

Gold Label Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

I was extremely please when I received my jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil.  I couldn't wait to cook with it.  I love anything coconut, so this was a real pleasure for me to review.

Before I go forward with my review, here is a little bit about the company:

Image of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil - 32 oz from Tropical Traditions. This certified organic product is a healthy cooking oil and high in antioxidants. This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw and surrounding areas from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest. The volcanic soil of Mt. Banahaw makes these organic coconuts some of the most nutritionally rich coconuts in the world! Testing done in independent laboratories reveals higher levels of phenolic antioxidants than other coconut oils. The fresh coconut meat is shredded (wet milled), and then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconuts to make coconut milk. The milk is then allowed to sit for about half a day, while the oil naturally separates from the heavier water. The oil is then filtered from the curds (coconut solids). No chemical or high-heat treatment is used, and this oil contains no trans fatty acids. We do NOT mass produce this oil. It is made by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years. Our coconut trees and family producers are certified organic according to strict USDA standards. The families who produce the oil are also trained according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and re-certified each year. This high-grade Virgin Coconut Oil has a long shelf life due to the high antioxidant properties. The Gold Label Standard is our highest standard for Virgin Coconut Oil.

How We Discovered Virgin Coconut Oil

Now onto my review...

I received my jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil and I immediately sat down at the computer to find a recipe, on their website, for supper that night.  I chose the Hawaiian Rice Medley recipe, to go along with my own recipe of Spicy Mongolian Beef (our family's favorite).  Oh my goodness, the rice was delicious!  I have to admit that I omitted the mango, macadamia nuts, Italian parsley and cilantro. These ingredients are not friends with my taste buds.  The rice had a beautiful subtle hint of coconut.  It wasn't overpowering and the kids were crazy about it, as was I and my hubby.

A few nights later I decided to make another dish, using a recipe from their site, called Coconut Chicken Adobo.  Fantastic recipe, I must say.  The chicken was falling apart succulent.  Once again, you could taste subtle hints of coconut... DELICIOUS!  As you can see, our family loves rice.  I made plain rice and corn to go along with the Coconut Chicken Adobo.

I am extremely pleased with the results and the taste of the coconut cooking oil.  I had never used any before this review; I guess I just never thought about using it.  I sure am glad that I did and I will definitely be buying more as soon as I run out.

WHERE TO BUY:  You can purchase Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil from their website here.

WANT TO WIN?  I bet you do!  Tropical Traditions has graciously offered to give one of my readers the chance to win their very own quart of Coconut Oil.  This contest is open the US and Canada only and will end on December 12, 2011.  Good luck to all!

*Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose.  Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

I have been using very dark chocolate in my Primal/Paleo recipes.
I make an energy bar with whey powder, almond butter, almond meal, coconut oil (of course!), unsweetened shredded coconut, vanilla, egg and now I have added melted dark chocolate- they came out great! I see tropical traditions has some great looking organic dark chocolate. I try to only eat 75% and above, and their 80% looks darn good- I want to try it and would love to see you do a review on it!

After using Tropical Traditions Gold Label Coconut Oil for several months my cholesterol went down 12 points and my ratio is excellent but more important my brain is working again. I not only eat it, I cover my body right after my shower. I will never be without it as long as I live.
